Energy, clarity, and focus fade when your jar is full of sand. ✅
I forget this sometimes, too, and my focus slips,
and I find myself busy, but not productive.
A mentor drilled the “Three Big Rocks” into me years ago…
And yesterday a client said,
“My focus and creativity feel stuck. My energy’s low.”
We tipped her jar.
Named the three rocks for her that hold everything else together:
– Structure
– Stress management
– Joyful anticipation of something to look forward to
If you try to fill a jar with rocks, pebbles, and sand in any order, the physics is simple:
sand first = no room left for the rocks
rocks first = the gaps stay open; pebbles and sand settle in around them
Big rocks in first.
Then everything else finds space.
So we blocked her week for:
• two quiet mornings crafting portfolio pieces for dream clients
• a weekly art hour with zero business agenda
• one networking event to meet people to solve puzzles and spark collaboration
Our job now is to “nurture” those rocks:
Protect the rocks
– (our foundational building blocks for success),
and then let the pebbles, gravel, and sand settle
– (the other smaller things that need to get done).
Leaders who nurture their three big rocks see the same pattern:
Clarity rises, energy returns, ideas pour in.
Results are inevitable.
Which three big rocks will you guard and nurture this week?
